1st July – Wednesday
I haven’t taken any photos today so have included a couple of aliens seen wandering around Wycliffe Well.
We thoroughly enjoy Jim Hooker’s entertainment last night. Jim is known as the Barkly Bush Tucker Man and evidently was featured by the ABC on Australian Story some time back. He entertained us with some bush poems and stories of his life in the bush (not really believable!) before introducing us to a range of bush tucker. His theme for the night was roadkill, so he cooked a kangaroo tail in the camp fire. When the foil was unwrapped (foil is obviously easily found in the bush), the tail still had fur on it! He peeled a piece of this off and offered to a bloke who was quite happy to eat it, then broke the tail into pieces and conned/talked people into eating it. Yuk!!! An American couple quietly disappeared when the tail was first broken and someone was also noticed taking a step back and attempting to hide behind a light pole. Even Cat wasn’t interested. I do think we were fortunate in having “roadkill,” as Wednesday night’s theme was witchetty grubs.
We had a bit of a disturbed night as a number of the local population appeared to have partaken of a little too much refreshment and became a trifle vocal.
Another hot morning, with the temperature at 29 degrees by 8.30am. Today we turned east with only a fairly short drive this morning to Barkly Homestead Roadhouse – approximately 200 km – and were lucky to be the third ones to arrive at the Roadhouse caravan park. This meant we were one of the fortunates and were able to have a shady site. With the temperature around the 35 degree mark, this was very important. For the first time we don’t have television reception, but the mobile phone has coverage. Today is the second day we have used the air conditioner.

Stop complaining - I'll swap you the wet weather and cranky kids for a day of your sunshine. Gorge in flood - first time in years.
That's a great look! I agree with Kathryn (AKA Anonymous) - STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT THE WARM WEATHER!! I'm sure Meg would have had a go at the kangaroo tail.
