Friday, 3 September
We had a cold, foggy start to the day, which lifted fairly quickly but the weather remained cool and partly cloudy throughout the day. First item on the agenda was a visit to the township of Margaret River, both for a wander among the souvenirs (never a shortage of these!) and to stock up on a few supplies. The weather was a bit unpleasant due to the low temperature and it was a pleasure to return to the caravan.
While one of us read his newspaper, the other walked to the winery next door to the caravan park – a really nice place with a rather nice gift shop, restaurant and cellar door. The young lady was very generous with her tasting samples, as well. Feeling quite happy by this, an executive decision was made to have lunch here and the newspaper reader was collected. We had a good choice of dishes, ranging from light nibbles to heartier selections – venison quiche and Turkish bread with olive oil and dukkah were our choices. The restaurant was very family friendly as well, with large playing fields outside (complete with soccer and volleyball nets) as well as a lounge area with toys and four computer playing stations for kids of all ages. The wines weren’t bad, either. Cat didn’t take long to make selection!
Following lunch, we drove to Yallingup (most of the town in this region finish with “up”) and stopped at Smith Beach, as featured on Getaway last night, and finished up at Dunsborough before returning.
A rather pleasant day.
