Shopping

Monday, 30th April

We discovered today just how much cheaper breakfast is here as compared to Kauai – but pancakes are still the order of the day! Grape jelly is just too much …

We have now done our bit for the US economy – I’m sure tomorrow’s stock market figures will reflect this. We took The Bus (Honolulu’s public transport system, $2.50 a ride, regardless of length and time) to the Waikele Centre – only two hours by bus but definitely worth the effort. The brands were so, so much cheaper, it is hard to understand why we have to pay so much at home.

There were lots of Australians about, probably because a large cruise ship docked yesterday and a lot of people left the cruise and a staying on for a few days. One lady happened to mentioned that she had taken a shuttle service from Waikiki for $5 and it only took 45 minutes. When someone was banned from buying more pants and shirts, we enquired at the Information Centre about a shuttle back to Waikiki and were offered seats on a Japanese service, leaving immediately and only $5 each. We decided it was worth the few dollars extra not to have to spend two hours on a bus, juggling bags. We were even dropped at the hotel door, but it did seem a bit strange being the only Anglo-Saxons on board – all the signs were in Japanese as well. Better still, we discovered the Japanese don’t tip!

Guess who had the larger pile after all the shopping was unpacked?  And he didn't even buy any socks!

No photos today – shops are shops.
