Australian Festival of Chamber Music

Monday, 5th August

The gorgeous weather continues – hopefully the weather patterns are returning to “normal.”
While he was enjoying the early morning sun yesterday, Cat was visited by Thomson, a neighbouring blue heeler. After a bit of hissing and snarling, superiority was quickly established and Thomson left in no doubt as to who was “top dog!”

Late Sunday afternoon we headed to the Cairns Civic Centre to collect our free tickets and enjoy a concert as part of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music. Very enjoyable it was, too. The director of the festival, Piers Lane, was also the pianist and accompanied an oboeist, a violinist and cellist. The program commenced with piano and oboe (very nice) and then the cellist joined the pianist. Wow – and the music wasn’t bad, either. He was very good! Next item on the program was a young lady from Eastern Europe who played a classical piece on the piano accordion – unusual instrument for classical music, not a sound we are accustomed to. The evening concluded with a number of pieces played by the trio of piano, violin and cello. A very pleasant evening.

Monday morning I decided on a bit of “me” time and a wander through the local DFO. Unfortunately for all those expecting an expensive Oroton accessory, the DRO centre was broken into last night and the Oroton shop was rather light on for stock this morning. They seemed to be the only shop targeted – someone obviously needed a new handbag. Himself had all morning by himself to think about washing the caravan!

There are a number of sunbirds in the area of the caravan park and these little birds do tend to build nests in the most unusual places – clothes lines under awnings are favourite spots. A couple of these birds have set up home on a power cord outside the amenities block and seem quite happy to sit and watch the world go by.
