Autumn

Thursday dawned, bright (pardon the pun), clear and COLD!  It has been some time since we have known what -2 degrees feels like and our poor little heater really struggled to warm the inside of the caravan to 10 degrees.  Naturally, the big decision of the morning involved showering.

After sorting out TomTom’s little problem, and once again being able to plan and transfer routes from the iPad, we set out for the old Chinese mining village of Wandiligong, only four kilometres away.  We decided on the shorter, alternative walking route (not the two and a half hour walk!) along Morses Creek, across the Chinese Swing Bridge, under some pretty trees to the pavilion on the site of the Joss House and returned to the car across another, much more active swing bridge.  Despite the very snaky appearance of the area, I was assured that no snake would ever venture out when the temperature was below ten degrees.

We returned to Bright with the aim of driving (NOT walking uphill!!!) to Huggins Lookout and with two routes to choose from, we opted for the one which would take us through parts of the town as yet unseen.  After the first turnoff onto a dirt road, we came to a t-junction and took some time to actually find the direction sign hidden in the undergrowth.  This road became a good chance for Himself to test his four wheel driving skills on the rough and windy road, until we arrived at the lookout.  We continued in the same direction on a much improved road (the first option, see above) for a short distance until we were back in the town again.

We couldn’t pass up lunch at the Beechworth Bakery, leaving the beestings for Barry to enjoy, before setting out for another walk along the Ovens River, starting at the caravan.  We walked a short way heading away from the town, but it was very cold and dank, so turned around and walked back through the township and towards the canyon.  Much prettier and warmer.

We have been blessed with two perfect days, weatherwise, in Bright.  Tomorrow we head to Temora.
