Bush Artists
Tuesday, 5 June 2012
A wild and woolly night has been followed by a wild and woolly day – woollies are definitely the order of the day!
This morning, one of us visited the hairdresser while the other caught up with his little odd jobs about the caravan.
We started the afternoon with a visit to the Pro Hart Gallery, at the home of the late artist. The first things we saw were Pro’s three Rolls Royces and Bentley. Apart from a wonderful exhibition of some of his works, there were also original paintings and prints for sale. If we only at $12,000 to spare … On display was the painting of the dragonfly done on carpet, as well as some of his cannon blaster paintings. These were accomplished by Christmas decoration balls being filled with paint and the balls were then blasted onto the canvas (the blaster was on display as well).
Our next stop was at Jack Absalom’s gallery and the great man was there to greet us. He even agreed to a couple of photos – Cat nearly disgraced himself with the excitement! It was such a privilege to meet this well known artist and we even bought a couple of his prints. Again, if only we had a spare …
With the weather getting wilder and darker, we headed for the historic BHP mine site and the miners’ memorial on top of the hill. To get to the memorial, we had to walk through the gift and coffee shop, then outside across the top of the hill to the memorial, which was shaped like a tunnel. We battled against the wind both ways and struggled to stand up inside the memorial. Needless to say, we didn’t stay outside very long before heading for a coffee.
Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny.
