Such a pretty flower and such a horrible weed |
We only had another relatively short hop today – about 150
kms. Surprisingly, we only had one truck
pass us, I think they were all on the road yesterday to avoid the traffic
today! The highway surface has been
steadily improving, with less bumps encountered today. We had lots and lots of wheat and canola to
look at as well, today, with The Dish just north of Parkes to break the
monotony. We also passed through (yes,
through) and large gold mine at Tomingley, with a large open-cut immediately to
the west of the road
The weather today has been warmish, about 23 degrees, with a
bit of high, hazy cloud.
We are overnighting at the Big4 Forbes (yes, we do get a
discount!), which is a lovely little park and we have a lovely, grassy
site. So much nicer than dirt. This afternoon, we did a tour of Forbes,
stopping at the Lachlan
River for a wander, then
we had a stop at the cemetery. Ben Hall,
the bushranger, Kate Foster (Ned Kelly’s sister) and Rebecca Shield (great
niece of Captain Cook) are all buried here.
Surprisingly, Kate Foster was buried in the Church of England section,
but the bushranger had the best kept and most impressive grave.
