Bronze statue in Heritage Centre |
We are not very keen on the Victorian weather, especially
the temperatures! I even found Cat
snuggled down in bed between us this morning.
John and Fay, who we met at Cairns ,
were always very insistent that we visit them if near they home town of Nathalia and with some time to spare this morning, we set
off on the 60 km drive eastwards along the Murray River . Shortly before reaching Nathalia, the driver
noted that an engine warning light was showing – not always good news. After consulting the manual, we decided it
was safe to proceed to Nathalia and once we arrived at John and Fay’s house, a quick
call to Echuca Mitsubishi had the car booked in for diagnostic tests at
1.30pm. Meanwhile, our hosts were very
good to us and after morning tea, took us for a tour of their small town. The highlight of the tour was a visit to the
Heritage Centre, for a look at life in the district in the olden days and a
wonderful video of the nearby Barmah
Forest .
After driving through the picturesque farming land along the
Murray , we were
nice and early for our appointment with Echuca Mitsubishi and Mazda. After waiting for an hour, and discovering
they didn’t have a Mazda MX5 available for a test drive, the mechanic gave us
the good news that an emission filter was a bit clogged up and after it was
cleaned, there didn’t appear to be a problem.
Lots of smiles and many thanks, especially after being told there
wouldn’t be a charge, it was back to the caravan park – and the washing hanging
on the line. We missed out on our walking tour this afternoon, but there is always next time.
