Shortly after 800 pm yesterday, rain and increasing wind
resulted in one of us getting wet while the awning was quickly retracted. The rain did stop shortly thereafter, of
course.
This morning was a little cooler – about 19 degrees – but
very clear and much more comfortable. As
the awning was already in, packing up didn’t take as long and we were on the
road to Croydon about 8.30 am. It was
beautiful travelling conditions today, with clear blue skies, no wind, flat
country and an excellent road with little traffic. We followed the Gulflander tracks all the way
and had a quick stop at Bull Siding, where the track crossed the highway. We were at Croydon by 10.30 after a very easy
drive. We are staying at the Croydon
Caravan Park, which is a lovely green oasis after all the gravel, dirt and mud
of the previous weeks. It is so nice to
have green grass, the amenities are good, the trees are shady and the frangipani
is in flower.
After lunch, we visited the Information Centre, watched a
film and learnt about Croydon’s gold mining history (36 pubs in the town!),
read the information boards, looked at the outside displays and the great
sculptures scattered about the area and visited the various building in the
historical precinct. This is a great
town for a stopover – and there is no entry charge.
