With only a short drive of 100 kms today, Himself was able to celebrate the Swans’ win last night with a sleep in!  The road was much better today, not as bumpy, but with a bit more traffic.  We were at the Roses n Things Caravan Park at Barcaldine by 10.30 am and because we had booked a few days ago, were lucky to have a large easy access site, with grass.  This is a lovely little park (only about a dozen sites) under the trees, on the edge of town (there are a couple of horses looking over the fence) and with its very own tea rooms/garden.  These tea gardens are obviously very popular with the locals for Sunday brunch and we felt it was our duty to support local business and have lunch there.

We had a quick trip into town for bread and milk – the IGA was closed but the bakery sold milk as well, thank goodness – as well as a look at the Tree of Knowledge.  This monument was erected on the site where the Labor Party was formed during/after the Shearers’ Strike of 1891 and close by are story boards and a wonderful metal sculpture of a shearer and his dog.  The Comet windmill a bit further down the street commemorates the free flowing bore.

A bit too hot today (29-30 degrees), so will enjoy the shade until it is dark and we can return to look at the Tree after dark.

ps  The Magpies won the grand final.
