A helping hand |
We had a relatively short drive today – only 200 kms – to Warrawong
on the Darling, a couple of kilometres east of Willcania. Following a magnificent sunrise (not always a
good sign), the sky quickly became hazy with high cloud which cleared before we
arrived at Willcania. The road was very
good, there wasn’t very much traffic, but there was a lot of live wildlife and
animals today – kangaroos, emus, cattle, sheep, even an eagle! There was also a large amount of roadkill to
steer around (most of it seemed to be on our half of the road!!!), including a
quite large pig. There are some very fat and well-fed crows in this region. One stupid emu even
tried to join the roadkill scene, just avoiding a large splatter on the side of
our caravan by being blown off his feet by the slipstream. He quickly picked himself up and returned to
his starting point and to wait for the next vehicle, no doubt.
We are staying at a lovely little caravan park on the bank
of a billabong and a short walk from the Darling River. The in-laws (Sally and Paul) are here tonight
as well (we will go separate ways tomorrow) and we all enjoyed a stroll to the
river and another billabong, before settling down to enjoy the sunshine and
boost our vitamin D levels.
