We have had a couple of busy days and a quiet day with
Jack.
On Monday night, the heavens
opened and it RAINED!!!
The rain
continued Tuesday morning, and most of the afternoon before easing.
Fortunately, the postman arrived before lunch
on Tuesday and Jack was able to finally erect his “bedroom.”
We also introduced Jack to lunch at Cazaly’s
on Tuesday before joining all the other tourists (and many locals on school
holidays) at the Cairns Aquarium.
Jack
took photos of all the fish and reptiles – his parents will have many hours of
photo viewing when he returns home!
Unfortunately, the blue interior light didn’t help with colour
photography.
The rain had cleared by the
time we were ready to leave for bowls but quite a few of the regulars were evidently
worried about more rain happening.
We
managed to complete one game before the rain set in once again and it was a
mutual decision by all players to have an early night.
Wednesday was a perfect day, weatherwise, with Jack spending
a fair amount of time in or around the pool.
He did go for a bike ride during the afternoon and came back wet
through, after managing to fall into the pool somehow.
Roast lamb for dinner (with lashings of
gravy) was the perfect end to the day for Jack.
Today, Jack and I boarded the Skyrail for the trip to
Kuranda – along with all the tourists who were at the aquarium on
Tuesday!!!
We left the gondola at Red
Peak for a walk through the rainforest before continuing to the Barron Falls
Station – and the new lookout with see-through flooring.
Our departure from Barron Falls was delayed
when the gondalas came to a sudden halt (before we boarded) and didn’t move for
some time.
We eventually arrived at the
Kuranda terminal, had the obligatory photograph taken, which we declined to buy
(there were three other strangers in the gondala with us, after all) and then
bumped into a couple from Ulverstone.
Needless to say, Jack became bored while Les talked to the couple.
We eventually took the shuttle bus to the top
of the village and Jack made a beeline for the markets; we looked at every
stall in every market, looked in every shop (except feminine clothing stores),
looked at every crystal and opal and tried on many hats.
Jack eventually decided to purchase a mini
stock whip, after joining the lady from the shop in treating the passing
tourists to a whip cracking display.
He
also managed to complete his gift shopping in the many tourists shops in the
village.
