More Parties

Wednesday, 18 July 2012

We have had a fairly quiet couple of days this week, with Barry and Denise back here on Monday. They took Les with them to organise storage for their car and caravan, as he would have to put it in storage on Tuesday morning. We finished the day with a joint barbecue in the camp kitchen, where Denise very ably looked after all our chops and sausages. I am starting to be a little concerned at the influence James is having on Cat – happy hours are becoming a little too “happy!”

Tuesday morning, it was up bright and early at 4.45 am to take Denise and Barry to the airport. I was back home well before sunrise and able to have breakfast at the usual time. The morning was spent at the hairdressers and the afternoon relaxing before playing bowls last night. Les developed a migraine and spent most of the day in bed asleep.

Bowls in the evening was very pleasant, to say the least. The temperature was perfect for t-shirts and short pants and there was no wind. The large crickets crawling around the green were a bit off-putting though as one tended to try and miss them. Unfortunately, a large and beautiful moth did go to moth heaven. We were also treated to a number of micro bats flying around in the light, looking for insects. My team were lucky (or good!) enough to win second prize for the evening and I came away with $10; Carlene’s team were overall winners for the night and she is now the proud owner of a $30 meat voucher from the local butcher at Edge Hill.

Today is rather special – my birthday. The morning started well, with some birthday music and presents from Les and my sister, Kathryn. I have a pair of lovely gold earrings to match my Russian wedding ring, as well as some wine and lingerie from Kathryn. The postman delivered a present this afternoon from Diane, Cameron, Michael and Emma. I was lucky enough to be treated to renditions of Happy Birthday this morning from Michael and Emma before they left for school, then the grade 2 class at Trevallyn made a surprise skype call with their version. David and Aidan completed the skype calls later in the morning.

I was privileged to be invited out to morning tea at Carlene and Rex’s caravan, with James and Maureen joining us for coffee, goodies and birthday cake. Les and I drove into Cairns CBD for a luncheon indulgence at Movenpick – waffles for me and banana split for him. Tonight, the six of us will celebrate (until at least 9.30 pm!) and go out for a nice dinner.
