It has been a fairly quiet week with beautiful, and typical, Cairns’ weather – dry, sunny, clear skies and about 27-28 degrees every day.

Last Sunday morning we enjoyed a walk around the Cairns marina and pier area, along with many other people, appreciating the slight breeze off the water and watching the tour helicopters taking off and landing.  We are also continuing our regular walks along Freshwater Creek and always finding something new and/or interesting to look at.  We even enjoyed a drive one afternoon to the norther beach suburbs – not only some very nice houses but also beautiful tropical beaches, with sand, palm trees, lapping waves and crocodiles!

On Friday, we finally agreed that we should make our first visit to the Reef Casino (only taken us ten years!) and after inspecting the magnificent virtual aquarium in the foyer and obtaining our free membership cards, we were ready for the actual casino.  There was virtually no one playing any of the tables and not many at the hundreds of poker machines.  Ready to make a combined donation of $10, it took a while (and instruction from a friendly local) to work what to do and it wasn’t long before Himself had a big win and stopped playing, followed shortly after by my more modest win.  We collected our winnings and decided to treat ourselves to a celebratory ice cream.

Yesterday we headed back to the Atherton Tablelands and the Yungaburra Market – a very pleasant way to spend the morning before joining John and Fay for lunch at the Gallo Dairyland.  After joining them for coffee at the caravan at Walkamin, it was late afternoon before we returned to Cairns.

Football is not being mentioned at the moment.
