After farewells to Helen, Vince, Pat and Peter, we left Bargara and quickly realised that Daisy (aka TomTom) was not happy to be leaving. Despite knowing we were going to Maroochydore, she kept wanting us to “turn around when possible;” the ring road only added to her woes and we eventually had to put her to sleep for a while. She still wanted to go back to Bargara but re-entering our destination made her happy.
We encountered a lot of trucks, which meant a lot of truck drivers talking on the radio. After listening to one driver offer his opinion about something and being absolutely amazed that anyone could use the “F” word so many times in one sentence, I interrupted and thanked him for sharing the information with my family and how much we appreciated it. One truck driver shut up very quickly!
The Bruce Highway had a few areas of roadworks but we weren’t held up to any degree. However, a traffic accident at Tordenlea had closed the highway and we had to detour – we ended up almost at Hervey Bay before heading back to the highway and adding another 50 kms to our journey. Of course, Daisy was upset once more!
We eventually arrived at Maroochydore at 1.00 pm – what should have been a shorter trip became a much longer day. We are at Maroochy Palms Holiday Village, which is a very nice park right on the river, with some lovely walks, and a major shopping centre, with some lovely shops.
The remainder of the afternoon was spent in front of the television cheering on the Swans.
