Snakes Alive at Hallidays Point

Wednesday, 18th September

We awoke to a beautiful clear and still morning – perfect conditions for the mozzies!  We were on the road by 8.30 am and heading south – driving south through the northern coast of New South Wales during the past two days has been quite delightful.  Today we had bright blue skies and no wind and the scenery was similar to yesterday – small hills, farm land, eucalypt forest and magnificent rivers.  The road today was pretty good, with dual road for the majority of the trip and only a few road works.  We did notice, and regret, the absence of any rest areas during our 200 km drive.

Unfortunately, the good road conditions disappeared immediately we turned off the highway and headed to Hallidays Point – although sealed, the road was atrocious!  Very bumpy and rough.  We are staying at the Beachfront Holiday Resort at Hallidays Point, which is about 10 km north of Forster-Tuncarry.  It is a large park and there are only four caravans here at present, so plenty of room and no neighbours playing country and western music near us.  With school holidays commencing this weekend, come Saturday this park will be completely full!  Unfortunately, there isn’t much (any, really) shade but there is a two rink bowling green.  After checking in and walking out the office door, we were confronted by an enormous, gigantic black snake in the middle of the tiled walkway – it would have to have been at least 40-45 cm long!!!  Fortunately it decided the garden was a better place to be.

We have had a relaxing afternoon, with a stroll along the beach – and such a beautiful beach.  It was just gorgeous!  Hopefully we will have a roll-up on the bowls green later when it cools down a bit.

OK! Just because you are having good weather, you don't have let us less fortunate know about it.

Did't Les have the jacks down to get way so early?
