Sunshine Coast

Wednesday, 11th September

With only 200 kms to travel today, we decided to have a leisurely start to the day and take our time packing up.  After seeing the sunrise yesterday, Himself obviously enjoyed the experience and decided to see if today’s was just as good.  Utterly ruined my quiet time!  For the record, today’s sunrise was better than yesterday’s as the sky was clear, the air was warm and there was no wind.  Needless to say, we were hitched up and ready to roll by 8.00 am.

After our experience of Fraser Island tracks/roads, the Bruce Highway today was like driving on velvet.  A couple of small road works didn’t delay us at all and we were at Maroochydore before lunch.  We are staying at the Maroochy Palms Holiday Village, which is just as nice as we remembered it from previous visits.  If anything, the eels in the waterhole are even bigger than last year – obviously well fed by all the tourists.

Not having undertaken any washing since leaving Cairns last Thursday and Himself starting to mutter that he needed to turn his undies inside out to get a second wear, my first port of call after setting up was the laundry.  With the temperature over 30 degrees, the clothes were off the line after a couple of hours.  The afternoon has been fairly relaxing, with just visits to the supermarket and a nearby fruit and vegetable shop to replenish our provisions.

It will be nice to be able to stay in one place for a few days now.
