Murray Downs Homestead |
After a very peaceful and quiet night, we awoke to a very
chilly morning with the temperature hovering around 1 degree. Cat wasn’t the least bit impressed and refused
to leave the warmth of the electric blanket.
Once the sun was well up and the temperature had risen a bit, we really
enjoyed the beautiful spring sunshine.
A trip to Swan Hill would not be complete without a visit to
the Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement. We had
a thoroughly enjoyable day, with lots of interesting old buildings and
displays, plenty of old machinery – there was even a stump jump plough – horse
and carriage ride, delicious scones and a rather amusing photographic studio. We had great fun selecting suitable attire
and then holding suitable poses, with suitable expressions, for the very nice
lady to take our photo. Our own camera
was used, many photos were taken and it only cost us $5 each. Well worth the laugh, especially when we saw
the results! The day concluded with a
ride on the paddle steamer PS Pyap
along the Murray River as far as the Murray
Downs homestead.
