Receptionists

Wednesday, 7th July

Leslie decided to have another game of bowls last night at Palmerston and came home wet through and very happy (obviously had won!). Although we only had a light mizzle at the caravan park, just a few kilometres away at Palmerston, it bucketed down. It was very windy all night (we even had to shut a couple of the windows) but at least this morning was clear and the humidity had dropped to something bearable.

I decided yesterday afternoon that I would require antibiotics, so a visit to reception for the name and address of the nearest medical centre. Were given the name of a clinic, the telephone number and the address as Guard Street. Rang, but no appointment available until this morning. Before setting out, decided to key the address into TomTom – no such street exists! Back to reception for directions. Oh, so sorry, you have been given the wrong address. New address was on the corner of Temple Street (know where that is) and another street (also doesn’t exist!). Also gave us a map with the clinic marked. Off we go and discover the medical clinic as marked on the map (by reception) is actually a Vet! Not much use. Ring telephone number for directions – no where near where we were – the street address was GURD Street! The first receptionist had it nearly right, but not good enough for TomTom.

Poor TomTom obviously isn’t enjoying Darwin. On two different occasions as we have been driving along (with her safely in the glove box), she has commenced giving us directions to turn around at the first possible chance and tries her best to get us to return to Tasmania.

Apart from this morning’s adventure (I did eventually get to see a doctor for all of three minutes - $70 thank you!), we have just relaxed this afternoon. Tomorrow we should be able to venture further afield.

Must be the day for doctor's as Bazza and I also managed at last to get an appointment. Good thing it was only antibiotics we required as Dr was very old well into his 80's we think !Even the Chemist said he's a bit of a worry !!
