We were again entertained last night, however, the “music” was not quite as welcome as the previous evening. Sometime before midnight and lasting until at least 2.00 am, some members of the local community decided to entertain the town with some very loud drumming practice – using possibly tin drums and/or fences for instruments!
A very cold morning as we packed up and joined the queue for water at the Council depot. It only cost us $2.40 to fill our tanks, which wasn’t too bad. It didn’t take long for the temperature to rise to a very pleasant 19 degrees. The drive north to Marla was without incident, although a tag-along convoy did follow us out of the Cadney Homestead Roadhouse (we were probably about a kilometre in front). It wasn’t long before we caught up with a campervan doing 70 kmh and totally unaware of any traffic behind him. We passed without trouble but it wasn’t long before he had at least 10 caravans and a big truck plodding along behind him! It was quite interesting listening to the tag-alongs on the radio.
We were at Marla by lunchtime and were able to select a nice sunny site. This is a rather unusual caravan park, behind a roadhouse, where the power poles are set around circular glassed areas and caravans park on the road. This means that power cords need to be pulled under the caravan for connection. It is rather interesting watching newcomers trying to work out where they are supposed to park and how to go about it. One van made three circuits before deciding to stop – with the caravan door opening onto the roadway.

Someone has decided it is time to get his shorts out from under the bed and work on the suntan but someone else is sticking to long pants for a few more days, at least. The wardrobe will be swapped over in Alice Springs.
We have decided to drive straight through to Alice Springs tomorrow – we can certainly manage 5 hours on the road in order to reach some civilisation.
