My apologies for the lack of photos but I am unable to
upload photos to my blog. Hopefully I
will be able to solve the problem soon but if anyone has any suggestions,
please let me know.
Last night at Holbrook was very cold and the local possums
kept warm by throwing gumnuts on our roof all night. It didn’t take us long to get back into the
swing of hitching up and were on the road shortly after 8.30 am. Another beautiful, clear day for the drive
north to Canberra . The road was quite a drag, with some long
hills between Holbrook and Yass. We had
a short stop at the Dog on the Tuckerbox (along with hundreds of other people),
changed drivers and continued north to Yass, where we stopped again – for the
same reasons.
We continued to Canberra and
Queanbeyan, where we had decided to stay at the Riverside Caravan
Park . We mistakenly thought that not many people
would visit Canberra
at this time of the year! There was a
queue of caravans waiting to get into the caravan park – and it didn’t look a
thing like the photos on their website.
We were offered the last site available under a pine tree on top of a
clay bank; decided quickly that our caravan was too big. We had parked on the side of the road, so
tried ringing the Exhibition Grounds (ie showgrounds) to see if we could get a
site there but no answer. Kept trying
for another half hour before making the decision to just drive back to the north
of Canberra on
the off-chance we could get in. No
problems – pay the money up front then pick a site from the campground at the
rear of the Exhibition Grounds. A much
better caravan park than the two at Queanbeyan – large sites, sunny (although
shade available if wanted) and reasonable amenities, which were very clean.
We had a long walk around the grounds after settling in and had just make afternoon coffee when James and Maureen arrived. So more coffee – your special coffee, please – and lots of talking. We will meet them again in a couple of days. It was very pleasant sitting in the sun, until about 4.00 pm.
