Go away, it's mine! |
Kiama was mild and overcast this morning – and no wind! –
when we packed up ready for our trip north to the big smoke of Sydney.
Kiama is quite hilly and we experienced some seriously big hills as we
made our way to the highway; fuel consumption was well off the graph! We joined the traffic heading north,
bypassing Port Kembla and Wollongong before
using heaps more fuel as we climbed the Bulli
Pass and received our first glimpse of
a very smoggy Sydney
in the distance. We negotiated the
traffic without any dramas and thanked Doris TomTom most sincerely when we
arrived at the Lane
Cove National
Park and caravan park.
We have been allocated a site in the older part of the park,
under a great big gum tree (well, most sites are under great big gum trees
actually) and had to manoeuvre around two large trees to reverse onto
site. After setting up, and some lunch,
we stretched our legs (and had a good cardio-vascular workout) with a work
through the national park down to the Lane Cove River.
Of course, what goes down must come up!
Although a big wet underfoot in places, there were plenty of wildflowers
to keep the photographer happy. There is
also plenty of wildlife about the caravan park; unfortunately the scrub turkeys
can’t read the “Don’t Feed” signs.
With a handful of brochures to read, we have decided we wont
have any trouble filling a few days in Sydney.
