Wet Season

Thinking, thinking ...

Friday, 12 July 2013

Yesterday, it rained – no question about it, it rained! With the temperature hovering around 26 degrees, we were starting to feel that if we stood still for too long, we would start sprouting roots.

Thursday did not start well, for one of us, anyway. After undressing, getting into the shower and turning the tap on, only my feet became wet; no water at all came out of the shower head. Himself was very quick to come and examine the shower, but it did seem to take him some time to decide the shower hose had split (about the time I donned my bathrobe). Naturally, our first priority was to replace the shower hose, so with great delight on someone’s part, we head for the boy toy shop – Bunnings. With Bunnings wishing to charge us $49 for a new hose ($39 for hose and shower head attached!!!), we decided to try elsewhere. Unfortunately, we didn’t know the addresses of Masters or Mitre 10, so it was back to the caravan for lunch and an internet surf. We discovered that Masters store was directly behind the Bunnings store! Himself was like a pig in mud when he walked into Masters – much large range of stock, far better prices, friendly service … We found a large selection of shower hoses and paid $15 – much better than $49 for the same item. The on-duty plumber also suggested we buy a new shower head – the latest has four different coloured lights, depending on the water temperature. After declining the colours, I then spent nearly an hour following Himself up and down every aisle.

Late in the afternoon, we spent a very pleasant couple of hours with Brian and Jenny, James and Maureen, while we watched the rain pour down.

Today, Friday, the sun came out and we only had a small shower in the afternoon. We were reliably informed by a local that the weather would improve next week as the NSW school holidays finished this weekend and all the NSW tourists would return home. (I think there was a bit of glee behind this comment, probably more to do with the NSW tourists having to put up with the wet weather!)

We smelt much better today and said goodbye to Brian and Jenny after breakfast as they started to head south. The remainder of the morning just seemed to disappear, with some grocery shopping thrown in for entertainment. Leslie thought about washing the car and decided not to even consider thinking about washing the caravan today. After lunch, with the sun still shining, we headed into the Esplanade for a walk, parking outside 181 The Esplanade and joining the hundreds of tourists and locals enjoying the sunshine. Somehow, we once again ended up at the ice cream shop!

Is Les thinking of doing some exercise?
