The US Navy leaves Darwin today, so lots of unhappy girls! If one believed what is written in the newspaper, the sailors only took part one particular pursuit when on shore leave. All the ones we saw at various tourist attractions were obviously figments of our imagination!
Last night we had a lovely dinner in the Sunset Restaurant at the Casino. The staff were very apologetic that we had to sit on the verandah in the warm air with only about 20 other diners (and NO bugs!!!) instead of inside in the cold air conditioning among a large number of very noisy people. I think we had the best deal by far. It was just beautiful, watching the bright red sun (lots of bushfire smoke about) set, look out over the infinity pool and through the palm trees to the Timor Sea and the dinner cruise pearling luggers sailing about. The buffet was very nice as well, fresh fruit, soup, seafood, pasta, hot dishes, hot vegetables, pasta, salads, carvery and a great choice of sweets. One of us tried a number of different dishes and the other didn’t get past the prawns and crabs, leaving the baby octopus for others.
Yesterday afternoon became very smoky later in the day, with the feeling that the fires were probably quite close. It wasn’t until this morning that we realised just how close – literally over the back fence and still burning!
This morning we visited the Rapid Creek Market, which proved to be a great market for fresh vegetables. Only problem was, we could only identify about 10% of the produce on offer. Shan’s heart rate would probably have increased at the large choice of Asian vegetables and produce available. There was a very good hat stall though, and my collection has increased once more.
We returned to the caravan park to discover that last night’s motor home on the next site had been replaced by a small tent and a man with brightly coloured arms and legs – the rest of him as well, only we can’t see that, fortunately. He is staying in his tent for a week while he finds permanent accommodation in Darwin, hence the little tent being chock a block with household items.
A couple more photos from yesterday’s visit to the Botanic Gardens

You forgot to mention the football scores. In case you havent caught up with the lastest - Richmond - yes that is Richmond, beat the Swans. Annihilated the swans in fact. Definitely posted by someone anonymous.
Anonymous, GET A LIFE!
I too noticed the dramatic comeback by Richmond. Very interesting...
