Camels

Wednesday, 4 August

Once again, we received a telephone call last night to say that our morning camel ride had been cancelled and we could transfer to this afternoon’s ride – didn’t have much option!

As we no longer had to get up early and could have a sleep in, what happened? You got it in – we were both awake by 6.00 am! The morning was spent grocery shopping and stocking the frig and cupboards ready for our departure on Friday morning. Fruit and vegetables were surprisingly cheap today, the best prices we have paid for a long time.

The first couple of hours after lunch proved to be rather frustrating, with the computer deciding it was on holiday and didn’t want to do any work whatsoever. So it was put back in the cupboard to sulk and sort out its problems!

Finally, we set out for our long anticipated camel ride – which turned out to be along the nudist beach! We were lucky enough to have a camel each and were quite surprised at how comfortable the ride was. We were expecting a bone jarring experience but the ride turned out to be more a soft backwards and forwards roll. Les and Cat rode Connor and I was lucky enough to be on Ned Kelly, who starred in the movie “Australia.” I’m sure Nicole rode him. The camel following me became quite friendly and kept trying to kiss my knee - I was starting to be a bit worried that he would follow us home!
As mentioned earlier, the camel route was along the nudist beach and it was quite amazing that people would sunbake and walk around in the nude, surrounded by “normal” tourists and families. There were a number of young children on our ride and at one stage a naked male walked alongside us taking photos – pure exhibitionism!

We thoroughly enjoyed the experience, received a “free” photo, bought a tea towel and considered the afternoon well worth the wait.

I did NOT "get it in", and I resent the implication!

You guys seem to be spending a bit of time at the nudists beach!
