Yesterday was just a relaxing day at Darlington Beach
– we enjoyed a game of bowls, and a chat with the gardener who kept a close eye
on us and made suitable comments at the right time, before treating ourselves
to barramundi with chips and salad for lunch.
Very good value for $10. The
afternoon just seemed to disappear.
Himself was able to have a little sleep in today, as we
weren’t moving on. When he opened the
door of the caravan, he was met by a kangaroo who seemed very intent on coming
inside for breakfast. It took some
convincing to make her realise that she should stay outside!
Today was clear and sunny – perfect for drying clothes. I loaded the machine, made sure it was
operating and returned 40 minutes later to hang out the clothes. They were still dry and dirty; the washing
machine was indicating an error. Walked
to reception for a refund, returned to laundry and changed the clothes to
another machine, a man arrived to tell me it should be working and then he
discovered that someone had been behind the machine and turned off the water
and had completely stuffed up the electronics.
After finally getting the washing on the line, we headed off
for the Woolgoolga
Falls (supposed to be
very nice, according to the supplied information sheet), which are only about
15 minutes away. We set out for the 1.3
km walk only to find a large gate across the path. After deciding it was only to keep cars out,
we wormed our way around it and continued onwards until we came to the second
obstacle – a creek! Someone, who shall
remain nameless, had packed our walking poles right at the back of the cargo
bay, behind the bowls bags, the chairs and his bike; I wasn’t all that keen on
trying to cross the creek without the poles for balance. Therefore, we retraced our steps through the
thick rainforest – full of drop bears, no doubt – and went grocery shopping
instead.
This afternoon we headed back to the bowling green and actually gave up after an
hour because it was starting to get too hot.
We completed the afternoon with another walk along the beach –
conditions were beautiful, with no wind and huge breakers rolling into the
beach. This has been a fabulous caravan
park and an amazing place to stay, we will definitely be back.
