Torquay Beach and Pier |
Caravan Park |
Friend with fish |
Ulangan Pier |
Tuna and bream - dinner for someone |
Just cruising |
On Thursday evening, we made the dreadful discovery that
after relocating, we no longer received 32 television channels, in fact we
could only pick up a couple and those with difficulty. Much muttering occurred.
Friday morning, after checking the surrounding caravans and
realising none had aerials elevated, a search of the power box revealed a
co-axial connection. Much smiling as the
32 channels were re-instated.
Friday was another glorious day and we spent the morning
checking out the area, with a drive to Point Vernon along the Esplanade, a
visit to Woolworths and the new shopping centre. After lunch, we enjoyed a long walk along the
beach and did a quality control test on the local ice creamery.
The weather continued sunny and still today and after a slow
start to the day – and a bit of socialising with the neighbours, we drove to
Ulungan (the southern end of Hervey
Bay ) and discovered a
market happening in the vicinity of the pier.
Naturally, we had to stop for a look see at the market and the 880 metre
long pier – we didn’t quite make it to the end, but did stop to look at the
fish and talk to some of the many fishermen.
A large school of mullet had had the misfortune to swim along the length
of the pier and the younger males were having great fun simply using the hooks
as gaffs to catch the fish.
Unfortunately, they were just left to flap around on the pier deck. We did come across a young bloke with a large
tuna and plenty of bream, which he would have been quite happy to sell to us.
Once again, we enjoyed a long walk along the beach this
afternoon – it is such a pleasure to walk alongside a still, calm sea and not
have to endure a cold breeze.
